BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT TRAINING
March 1-3, 2013 THIS TRAINING IS FULL. PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE TO GET ON THE MAILING LIST FOR THE NEXT TRAINING, dates TBA. 541-552-0620
An experiential weekend workshop with a team of highly seasoned trainers in the field of bereavement. This training is for prospective WinterSpring volunteers and for professionals who encounter people in grief – teachers, caregivers, social service providers, counselors, and medical professionals. Over the course of the weekend we will be exploring our personal experience with loss, our understanding of the grief process, common themes in the ways different people grieve, and challenges often encountered by people in grief. Through presentations and exercises, we will look at what it means to accompany others as they face life without a loved one.
Material covered will include:
• What are some differences between natural, healthy grieving and grieving that gets stuck and can sometimes lead to other chronic conditions such as depression, addiction, or physical ailments?
• What kinds of things do grieving people tend to find most helpful, both in terms of what others can do, and what they can do themselves?
• How are some kinds of bereavement made more traumatic or complicated by circumstances like a sudden death, suicide or homicide?
• What are some ways that children, teens, adults and the elderly tend to grieve differently – and how about men and women? How can we be sensitive to these, as well as
cross-cultural differences?
